Convert Your Manuscript to EPUB 3.0 in 3 Steps

Paste your manuscript, enter your book title and author name, upload a cover image if you have one, and download your EPUB file. The tool handles chapter breaks based on your heading style.

DOCX to EPUB — How It Works in 3 Steps

  1. Paste your manuscript — copy your text from Word, Google Docs, Scrivener, or any plain-text editor and paste it into the input box.
  2. Enter your book details — add title, author name, language, and optionally ISBN and a cover image. Select your heading detection method.
  3. Download the EPUB — click Generate EPUB. Output is a valid EPUB 3.0 with correct mimetype, container.xml, OPF, nav.xhtml, chapter HTML files, and CSS.

What Gets Converted — and What Doesn't

This EPUB formatter converts your manuscript text: paragraphs, chapter headings, inline formatting (bold, italic), and inline images referenced with ![alt](filename.jpg) syntax. It embeds a cover image and all referenced inline images. What it does not convert: footnotes, data tables, and complex page layout. For footnote and table conversion, use the Print-to-Digital Adapter first.

Output That Passes KDP, Apple Books, and Kobo Validation

The generated EPUB 3.0 includes all required structural files — valid mimetype stored uncompressed, container.xml, OPF manifest with all content files listed, nav.xhtml navigation document, and individual XHTML chapter files. Run the output through the free EPUB Validator before uploading to confirm all 11 structural checks pass.

Yes. Paste your text from any source — Scrivener compile output, iA Writer, Ulysses, or plain text from any editor. The tool works from pasted text, not a specific file format, so the original writing app doesn't matter.
EPUB Formatter takes pasted text and builds an EPUB — works for any manuscript regardless of original format. Full Manuscript Mode accepts .docx or .txt file uploads and runs automatic formatting fixes (smart quotes, em dashes, encoding artifacts) before building the EPUB. If you're uploading from Word, Full Manuscript Mode is the better starting point.
